Watered-Down Gun Bill Was Murdered…. Suspect “Harry Reid”; Guilty As Charged!

filibusterThe Senate voted 54-46, on Wednesday April 17, to pass the bi-partisan (watered-down) background check bill written by Toomey and Sen. Joe Manchin. The passing of this weak form of legislation should have been an exercise of legislative ease. After all, the bill was full of loop-holes that would have made it pretty useless in the grand scheme of the bill’s intended purpose.

Constitutionally, the bill passed the Senate and should have been on its way to the House, but thanks to the parliamentary rule in the Senate, a bill receiving 54 votes was blocked using the asinine Senate Filibusterer. The Filibusterer (Senate Rule XXII) effectively overrides the constitutional requirements of passing bill in the Senate and replaces the constitutional standard with a rule that is of the making of the Senate alone. This distortion of civic rules and conditionally established protocol led to the Senate’s rules trumping the Constitution itself.

Oh, how the Founding Fathers would weep if the were here today. The fact is the Constitution requires a simple majority to pass a bill out of the Senate, but the Filibuster forces a 60 percent requirement to even debate the bill, much less pass it. One would think that the Constitution would not be so easily circumvented, but you would be wrong. Circumventing the Constitution has been a way a commonality ever since the election of George W. Bush (you know the really dumb Bush) see Patriot Act for proof. passed

The bill was supported and rejected in a bipartisan fashion. The Republicans who voted for the bill were Sens. Pat Toomey (PA), Mark Kirk (IL), Susan Collins (ME) and John McCain (AZ). The Democrats who voted against it were Sens. Heidi Heitkamp (ND), Max Baucus (MT), Mark Begich (AK) and Mark Pryor (AR). Who says that the Senate doesn’t work in a bipartisan fashion. The senate works in a bipartisan way when it comes to ignoring the will of “We The People” and in the interests of the rich and corporations. Can you say Oligarchs? Sure you can!

The bill has a holes in it that would leave the vast majority of private transfers unregulated/recorded which is the ways in which the majority of criminals acquire guns. With this fact being realized, the failure of passing this bill is not a major loss in the overall goal. Even with that said it would be a start.

Some researchers discovered as long as connecting states have such loose gun-control laws criminals would merely run those states without stricter laws. This is the justification for universal gun regulations/safety.

Now you have the various, mentally lacking, pundits that have subscribed to the notion of blaming the Republicons for defeating the bill, but this is not the case. You have those that say that the bill was defeated by the Second Amendment miss-understanders. The miss-understanders actually believe not only that this bill was an affront to the Second Amendment! The miss-understanders also believe that the Second Amendment was written to protect the rights of citizens to own guns, unencumbered by the government; you know, We The People.

They are wrong and on both fronts and thankfully there numbers are minuscule when looking at the nation as a whole. The origins of the Second Amend had nothing to do with individual rights to own guns, but was more of an answer the question of whether or not we would have a standing army in the United States, but i digress!

The person and/or reason why the bill failed to pass and why it was watered-down lies at the feet of one spineless individual. It is the by-product of one leaderless leader. It is of the making of one man that does not deserve to have his current position and that person would  be none other than the spineless “HARRY REID“!

The watering-down and defeat of this bill (not that it was a great bill) was made possible by the inability of Reid to utilize what some call the nuclear option. The Nuclear option basically kills the unconstitutional filibusterer and allows for the Senate to return to being a democratic body. The nuclear option could not happen sooner in the minds of most Americans. Ed (is dead to me) Reid has not demonstrated an ability to motivate and/or lead his Democratic (loosely used) members of the Senate for years and it has accumulated to an inability to pass Filibusterer reform.

Progressives be clear, Reid has no ability to lead as demonstrated by him failing to lay down party unity and thus, America still has the Filibusterer in place.

The filibuster is the reason that the will of the American people was ignored; it is the reason that the Manchin-Toomey bill failed; it is the reason that a great many progressive moves have yet to be made. It at the root of most obstruction in the Senate which has prevented President Barak Obama from achieving his agenda. If you are starting to read that the underlying meaning of this blog is to call for the removal of Reid? You would be correct! It is time that Democrats had a real leader: It is time that the Democratic Party was constructed of  real Democrats, and it is time that Democrats executed an progressive agenda.

The Manchin-Toomey bill was defeated because of the votes below and the use of the filibuster. Whose is the Filibuster’s pappy, Harry Reid is the Filibuster’s papa!

Excellent post Anthony. I was checking constantly for great information and this blog has provided justt that and I’m impressed! Very helpful information specifically the last part about the weakness of this legislation and yet it still did not muster up enough votes to pass the fillabuster, 🙂

I was looking for this particular info for a very long time. Thank you and good luck.
